King Arthur lies in Avalon
world-weary, wounded,
as winds of endless ages
swirl and dead moments torment
proud despairing dreams.
Camelot grew
from idea to dust to
memory fading
into heavy autumn fog,
and the land, waste, waits
without hope.
Arthur lies in Avalon,
a sleeping savior,
an undead king entombed,
listening through leaden silence
for a call that cannot come.
The hand of winter closes
and Arthur,
once king but nevermore,
lies in Avalon
still
