Roses Are Red, by James Patterson.  "In the new Alex Cross thriller, best selling suspense author James Patterson introduces his most maniacal killer to date-- The Mastermind.  Bank robbers have been wreaking havoc on suburban Washington, D.C. by entering banks and making precise demands, killing anyone who does not follow their instructions exactly.  Dr. Alex Cross is on the case, and reasons that only a certain kind of criminal would be so calculating.  But complicating the investigation is Cross's person stress-- his girlfriend Christine, who just had their baby Alex Jr., is still recovering from her kidnapping, and his daughter Jannie is hospitalized with inexplicable seizures.  And to make matter worse, Cross is without his favorite partner John Sampson.  Will he be able to stop the Mastermind's reign of terror?"

The Last Precinct, by Patricia Cronwell.  "Dr. Kay Scarpetta is back!  The resilient heroine returns in Cornwell's 11th Kay Scarpetta novel.  Last Precinct picks up where the last Scarpetta novel Black Notice, left off.  Scarpetta is Virginia's Chief Medical Examiner who now stands accused of homicide.  It all begins when a serial killer insinuated himself into Scarpetta's home and attacks her with a hammer.  Scarpetta survives but soon learns that the so-called Werewolf murders may extend to New York City and to something in her own past.  Victim becomes suspect, as the criminal investigation mounts and Scarpetta must figure out a way to uncover the truth that will absolve her.  Filled with forensic detail that Cornwell, a former police report, is known for, The Last Precinct is an exceptional mystery and will make new fans of Cornwell's award winning detective."
