eBooknet.com Shut Down by Gemstar

On April 2nd, eBookNet.com, the superb website for all ebook information, was shut down.  Not very long after its inception, eBookNet.com was purchased by NuvoMedia.  When Gemstar acquired NuvoMedia, it also acquired eBookNet.com.  The website was shut down by Gemstar with no notice to its devoted community of users and very little notice to the website's founders-- Wade Roush and Glenn Sanders.  All of the thousands of web pages of valuable information is now inaccessible-- presumably forever.

Co-founder Wade Roush posted this message to the "ebook-community" listserve on April 3rd:

"Glenn Sanders and I learned yesterday that Gemstar is shutting down eBookNet.com and phasing out our positions. We were laid off and the site was turned off effective April 2. Our superiors at Gemstar told us that the move was a business decision.

They said they need to focus on their content and device operation in the eBook marketplace, and that there isn't a place in this strategy for the kind of neutral journalistic coverage and community discussion represented by eBookNet.

eBookNet was a fantastic resource and a vital community. I am glad to have been a part of it, and I want to personally thank our loyal readers and everyone who contributed their time, thought, and energy to the site. I know that eBooks have a bright future, even if eBookNet won't be a part of it. Please keep an eye on my personal web site (http://www.sciencescribe.com) for news of future ventures."

Although there is no comparable website that duplicates the currency and depth of information that eBookNet.com provided, here are a few reliable ebook resources on the web:
