ELECTRONIC BOOK LOANS
MONROE COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM

Fairport and Gates Public Libraries are pleased to announce the availability of an LSTA grant funded project that will make electronic books [e-books] available to Monroe County residents.

The goal of this grant is to:

  1. Explore potential partnership and licensing issues with e-book vendors
  2. Develop expertise about E-books among county library staff
  3. Test e-books for practicality in a library setting
  4. Influence e-book vendors to consider library needs
E-books:
  • Can only be borrowed and returned at the Fairport and Gates Public Libraries
  • Are available for loan to all county residents
  • Are not available for electronic holds at this time
  • Circulate for 3 weeks and are not renewable
  • Cannot be returned in overnight returns
  • Have a daily fine rate of $2.00 to a maximum of $24.00
  • If lost or damaged beyond repair will have a replacement cost of either $200 or $600
  • Must have all items loaned to customer returned with e-book. Those items will include e-book reader, carrying case, stylus, cleaning cloth, instruction booklet and A/C adapter
Titles available in e-book format:
  • will vary monthly
  • will not appear in online catalog at this time
  • will be available upon request from the librarian on duty at participating libraries
  • requests from public will be considered for inclusion on an e-book reader if available electronically within grant guidelines
Customers borrowing an e-book are asked:
  • to complete a brief survey upon returning the e-book loan
  • to consider serving on an e-book focus group to provide feedback to participating libraries
  • to have waiver form for e-book loan signed [under 18, must have parent or guardian sign waiver]
Electronic book acceptable use policy:

"As a participant in the Electronic Book loan grant project, I understand that the project involves use of costly equipment. I acknowledge that I am responsible for careful use of the e-book reader and its peripherals that I borrow. I understand that I am responsible for replacement costs of the e-book reader and its peripherals if I fail to return all parts. I promise to not delete or add any titles to the reader I borrow. "
